THE POSITION

The Covells’ Restaurant & Deli Chef serves active senior citizens, their families, guests and staff members in a Life Plan Retirement Community setting. We serve over 200 residents and over 300 staff members on an ongoing basis. This position oversees the regular updating of menu options for restaurant and deli, assists manager in preparing and maintaining of food procurement and budgets, and leads the on-going training of sous chefs in new food item preparation and presentation to ensure that all who utilize Covells have good food and an excellent customer experience.  

HOURS: 9am to Close (appx. 7pm) 4 10hour days/week with every other weekend rotation.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares and updates food menus on a regular basis to help ensure excellent quality food and a rotating variety of options available in both restaurant and deli.
  • Helps educate all staff in Covells’ on the food items being prepared and their ingredients;
  • Helps prepare and execute special internal catering events for resident and community events;
  • Maintains proper stock of food and beverage items and supplies;
  • Keeps kitchen in a clean, sanitary condition at all times in collaboration with all team members;
  • Assists in serving meals and clearing dining area, as needed.
  • Follow daily cleaning schedules and sign off as completed.
  • Follow sanitation guidelines when storing foods including labeling and dating of unused foods, proper sealing of opened packages and rotating stock.
  • Follow all job responsibilities which includes good time management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager or the executive director as needed.

THE QUALIFICATIONS

  • be able to understand and follow instructions;

  • be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work as part of a team of cooks, restaurant severs, and deli servers at all times;
  • be able to problem solve quickly to meet the common goal of the restaurant to serve high quality meals;
  • demonstrate ability to learn and follow all safety, infection control, and sanitation rules applicable to dining room activities.
  • must be able to lift 50 lbs., stand for long periods of time, and work in extreme hot and cold conditions.
  • have the ability to listen, learn, and adapt quickly to changes.
  • be committed to the success of the Covell’s Restaurant and Deli as a whole so that all have a good quality food and a good customer experience.
  • Must have up-to-date ServSafe Manager certification or complete within 30 days of hire.
  • Culinary degree preferred, but not required if significant restaurant experience is noted.
